J.B. is married to the earthly love of his life, Dannette, and they have 3 amazing children. He grew up in Craig County and attended Roanoke College.
He came to Blacksburg Christian Church in April of 2018 when he was called from the corporate world into the ministry. J.B. served as their Youth Minister for over 5 years and then was called to serve as the church’s Senior Minister in January 2024.
J.B. has worn many occupational hats and views them all as ministries in their own right because they have equipped him to minister to a variety of different types of people. He has a passion for serving and working with others.
When he's not at church, you might find him in the woods or in his boat as he is an avid outdoorsman and "date nights" are often evenings on the pond.
Rev. C. James Carter - "Pastor Chris"
Rev. C. James Carter affectionately known as “Pastor Chris” answered the call to Pastoral ministry in April 2005. Before pastoring he served as Minister of Music for several churches in Middle and South Georgia.
He attended and received his education at Brewton-Parker College with a Major in Church Music. Liberty University Major in Applied Ministry. He is currently enrolled at Philips Theological Seminary. Pastor Chris has been pastoring churches since May 2007. He served in Laurens County, Ga (Neeler Chapel and Fleming Chapel AME) Mitchell County (Oak Grove AME) Appling County (Harper Chapel UMC), and Peach County (Fort Valley United Methodist Church) as the first African American Minister appointed by the Bishop. He is the Church Planter/Founding Pastor of the Healing Experience Ministries in Macon, GA. He also served as transition Pastor of The Table at First Christian Church Warner Robins and served as the first African American pastor of The Pointe Church of Lee County.
Pastor Chris served as Campus Minister/ Director of Campus Ministries at Fort Valley State University. He served as Campus Minister for over 7 years.
Since serving at FVSU he has witnessed 175 students give their life to Christ over 200 students re-dedicated their life to Christ and over 300 students active in Campus Ministries.
His passion is helping people in their faith walk. He offers a ministry of “No Judgment, Just Jesus”! His mission is that all will experience healing and
actively serve in their purpose.
Pastor Chris is founder and Director of HEM Hub and serves as the Pastor of Fairview Christian Church in Lynchburg, VA.

Rev. Trudy Betts is originally from West Palm Beach, Florida where she and her husband, Dwayne, raised their three kids. Rev. Betts received a call to ordained ministry in 1999 in her home church of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in West Palm Beach, Florida. She attended Florida Atlantic University and graduated with bachelors degree in History. Rev. Betts then attended Lexington Theological Seminary and graduated with her Masters in Divinity. She was ordained at Tropical Sands Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in 2015.
Rev. Betts has served in churches in Florida, Alabama and Virginia. She has a deep love and appreciation for the sacred stories in the Bible and has led numerous Bible Studies including the Disciple Bible Study, which covers over seventy percent of the Bible in thirty-four weeks. Rev. Betts has also written Bible stories for children and is working on a book, Sacred Wonderings with Children, to help others tell the stories to children using the Worship & Wonder format.
Rev. Betts serves on the Personnel Committee and Ordination Committee for the Virginia Region and was recently called to be part of the General Board for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Currently, she serves alongside the wonderful folks at Rappahannock Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Dunnsville, Virginia as their Senior Minister.
